PDEA: MANDATORY DRUG-TEST FOR BUS DRIVERS

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is urging leaders of the transport sector to implement drug-testing of bus drivers.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. said this in light of the Valisno bus that crashed on the concrete post along Quirino Highway, Lagro Quezon City, on Wednesday (August 12), killing four passengers and injuring 18 others.

George Pacis, the arrested bus driver, tested positive for the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as shabu.

Cacdac noted the rising road accidents caused by bus drivers high on drugs. “These incidents proved that there is a prevailing practice of illegal drug use among bus drivers,” he said.

PDEA is hopeful that the transport sector will police its ranks and encourage their members to submit themselves for drug-testing. “We will not wait until an accident happen on the road because the man behind the wheel is high on drugs,” the PDEA chief added.
